Conservation of Genetic DiversityThe conservation of genetic diversity is a broad concept, and can be approached in many different ways. From the point of view of a landowner, it can be as simple as selecting native species for plantations, using seeds that come from a local seed source. It can also mean paying particular attention to species that are threatened by insects or disease, and seeking out individuals that might be genetically resistant to pathogens. Or, adjusting forest management practices to pay particular attention to the maintenance and conservation of genetic diversity.
