About the FGCA
Our mandate and goals
The mandate of the FGCA, put simply, is to:
Promote the importance of the genetic resources of the forests in southcentral Ontario, with emphasis on conservation of genetic diversity of native forest tree species.
Our goals are threefold:

To promote the maintenance and restoration of the genetic base of woody plant species (trees and shrubs).
- To increase the economic benefits of planting through planning and implementing tree breeding programs for selected woody plant species.
- To ensure the use of biologically appropriate seed sources in support of planting programs.
